St Peter's Catholic Primary School Governing Body
The Governing Body works closely with the Headteacher, staff, pupils and parents to make sure that St Peter’s provides a good quality of education for all its pupils.
Governors have three main roles:
to provide strategic direction for the school;
to act as a critical friend to the Headteacher;
to ensure accountability
The Governing Body have adopted the ‘circle’ model with a formal meeting of all governors held once a term. Monitoring pairs of governors meet to discuss the school curriculum, achievement, SEN, behaviour, personnel, finance, health and safety. At certain times the governing body may ‘commission’ assignments or activities according to the priorities of the School Improvement Plan or in response to local or national initiatives.
Governors regularly visit the school to celebrate and enjoy performances, teaching and learning and school events such as Mass. They regularly attend training and courses to enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.
In addition the governors have decided that they will appoint associate governors who do not have voting rights but have an important role to play in supporting the Governing Body.
